The art of storytelling, with Matthew Byrne

About the episode

In this episode of The Folk Music Podcast I’m speaking with Folk singer and guitarist Matthew Byrne from Newfoundland. I’ve been a fan of Matthew’s music for a while now, so to be able to chat with him on the show was a real treat!

What I really like about Matthew is his ability to be a storyteller, as well as a singer and a musician. He’s not just singing pretty melodies; he will actually make you feel the emotions of the characters in the song. In my opinion, that’s the most important skill you can have as a singer.

We talk a lot about Matthew’s creative process when it comes to songs and storytelling, but we also touch on a number of other topics; like how he finds new material for his albums, the relationships between an artist and a producer, his guitar style , how he’s been dealing with the pandemic and we also go into an interesting discussion about our different approaches to social media.

I had a great time chatting with Matthew and I hope you will enjoy listening in on our conversation as well!
